As if earthquakes weren’t scary enough already, new technology has led scientists to discover a new type of quake – a type that grows slowly and at a constant rate over time. Dr. Gregory Beroza, visiting professor and Deputy Director of the Southern California Earthquake Center is in town to present a free public lecture on the discovery at Pioneer Park on Monday at 7pm. The talk is part of a lecture series sponsored by the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology and Seismological Society of America’s, this marks the first time that the series has made a stop in Alaska, thanks in part to the Geophysical Institute at UAF.
