Instructor: Wesley Hathaway
This is a class to learn the basics of carving a small eating spoon. Everything from splitting the log to a finished eating spoon and everything in between.
In this class you will learn how to make something you use so often with only a few hand tools.
We will learn basic carving techniques, grain orientation of wood, and how to use a carving knife, hook knife and a small axe.
With this knowledge, you will also be able to go out into the woods, find a suitable tree or branch and turn raw greenwood into your very own spoon.
Being able to sit next to a camp fire, in your backyard, or even in your kitchen when it gets cold out and turn raw material into a useful and functional object is a very wonderful thing.
I would encourage everyone to own their own set of tools. They are inexpensive, last a lifetime and will allow you to enjoy the skills you’ve gained beyond this class.
If you have your own carving tools please bring them along. Tools will be available for purchase:
Sloyd knife: $33
Hook Knife: $24
Small straight knife: $18
Miscellaneous sharpening supplies
Loaners will also be available.
