The public is invited to the play “Tahirih” (TAH-heh-ray), a story of a Persian heroine, poet, and feminist martyr. The one-woman performance by Nava Bastani will be presented Sunday August 13 at 2:00 pm, at the pavilion at the Chena Wayside, entrance at 3550 Geraghty Avenue (off University, just north of University’s intersection with Airport Way).
Born in 1814, Tahirih is remembered for her renowned skill as a poet in Persia, what is now known as Iran. She was a women’s rights leader at a time when most women were kept illiterate and hidden from the public sphere.
The play is open to the public, no admission, all are welcome.
