The UAF Hackathon is a weekend long, multi-disciplinary collaborative building event. Participants form teams and work for the entire weekend to build a variety of unique and interesting projects whether it be anywhere from robotics to video games. We provide materials for participants to use on their projects, such as 3D printers, and have mentors the entire weekend helping teams out when they run into problems. At the end of the event, a panel of judges will determine winners for each category (Automation, Assistive Technologies, and Alaskan), as well as a number of extra judge’s choice sub-categories, to receive prizes. The goal of the event is to encourage people from multiple disciplines to get involved in technology-based projects and to take what they learned from classes and apply it to real-world, cutting edge applications. In addition to this, we hope that all participants will learn something new and that this event will foster entrepreneurship.
